An Oasis of Survival and Hope
A Holocaust exhibition featuring artwork by the Children of the Terezin Camp.
This exhibition also showcased artwork produced by pupils from Hong Kong schools as well as information panels about different aspects of the Holocaust and other Genocides.
The exhibition was a huge success with high viability and educational impact for the wider Hong Kong public well as extensive press coverage.
25th October 2013 – Ephraim Kaye schools visit
Ephraim Kaye, Director of the International Seminars for Educators Department of Yad Vashem, gave three seminars to students at Sha Tin College.
He spoke to three different year groups and enthralled students with his subject material.
21st October 2013 – UN Official opens our Exhibition
Kimberly Mann, Manager of the United Nations Holocaust Outreach Programme, officially opened our Exhibition An Oasis Of Survival and Hope, in Central Market.
The event was attended by VIPS, Consuls-General, the students and parents of participating pupils from Elsa High School and Sha Tin College as well as members of the Jewish community and wider public.

21st October 2013 – Schools visits from Kimberly Mann-Manager of the United Nations Holocaust Outreach Programme
Kimberley Mann from the UN visited two Hong Kong schools, Li Po Chun and French International School. She spoke about the role of the United Nations in education and commemorating the Holocaust.
She also spoke to the Education Department, to discuss Holocaust Education in the Hong Kong curriculum.
She was also interviewed on RTHK radio 3 Phil Wheelan show.

19th October 2013 – Facing History workshop
Facing History ran an engaging and informative day’s training at Li Po Chun College in collaboration with the HKHTC.
Students considered issues of individual and national identities, the failure of democracy in Weimar Germany and critical issues of ethical decision making and consequences of choice in Nazi Germany.
The workshop highlighted ways to address adolescents concerns about exclusion, inclusion and stereotyping through the lens of history.
21 September 2013 – Celebration of United Nations International Day of Peace
HKHTC Board Members represented us at this wonderful occasion, attended by UNESCO and Government officials, representatives from Religious and Communal organisations, Consulates and other relevant bodies.
It was followed by a panel discussion – In what ways can media help shape peace in the world.
31st August 2013 Lectures by Dan Michman from Yad Vashem
On 31st August we were delighted to welcome Dan Michman from Yad Vashem. Professor Michman is Head of the International Institute for Holocaust Research and Incumbent of the John Najmann Chair of Holocaust Studies.
Professor Michman has been involved with Yad Vashem’s scholarly and educational activities since the early 1980s, is on the editorial board of Yad Vashem Studies since the mid1990s, and served as Chief Historian from 2000 till 2011.
Proessor Michman spoke in the afternoon about ‘Jewish Councils in the Ghettoes’ and in the evening addressed the fascinating concept of ‘Righteous Gentiles- the emergence of a unique commemorative concept’.
Both talks gave original and unusual insights into thier topics and stimulated a high level of discussion and conversation after the meetings.
November 2nd, 2012 – Seminar: The Holocaust as a Unique Event in History
Guest speaker and Head of Education at Yad Vashem – Ephraim Kaye, addressed students and academics at Hong Kong University in a joint lecture organised by the HKHTC and the University’s Modern Languages department.
May 14, 2012 – Inauguration of the Hong Kong Holocaust and Tolerance Centre
The Resource Centre was officially inaugurated on May 14th 2012, during a ceremony at Elsa High School, Shau Kei Wan. Former Israeli Chief Rabbi and Child Holocaust Survivor, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, attended the event as a guest of honour.
Local dignitaries as well as prominent members of the community attended the opening.
